Hypnotherapy for Menopause

Research shows that hypnotherapy can help reduce hot flushes and night sweats by up to 74% and can help improve sleep, mood, and general wellbeing. Although we often think of our minds and bodies as being separate, in fact, they’re constantly communicating with each other.

Perimenopause and Menopause, akin to puberty, ushers in a phase of transition marked by erratic hormone levels and a myriad of often frightening and perplexing symptoms.

Women navigating this stage commonly experience a range of discomforts, including tender breasts, diminished libido, heavy bleeding, hot flushes, night sweats, mood swings, anxiety, and disrupted sleep patterns. Even after menopause technically concludes (a year post-last period), hot flushes and night sweats persist in about three-quarters of post-menopausal women, with a third finding them significantly disruptive.

Despite debunking studies that once guided healthcare decisions against hormone replacement therapy (HRT), its prescription remains contentious. Consequently, many women grapple with unmanageable symptoms, leading some to forgo career advancement or opt for early retirement.

Given the profound impact of perimenopause and menopause on various facets of life, it’s imperative for women to explore all treatment options to mitigate these challenges.

Clinical hypnotherapy emerges as a promising avenue for symptom management, particularly in alleviating anxiety, hot flashes, brain fog, and fatigue. Rigorous trials have demonstrated its superiority over other therapies, including acupuncture, herbal supplements, and yoga, in addressing frequent hot flashes among postmenopausal women.

Recognising the need for support, organisations like West Midlands Police have integrated hypnotherapy into their initiatives to assist women navigating menopause in the workforce. Through hypnosis sessions, individuals learn simple yet effective techniques to manage symptoms, such as envisioning cooling sensations to counteract hot flushes. By mastering self-hypnosis, individuals can summon relief when these symptoms arise, enhancing their overall well-being during this transformative phase.
