Arachnophobia, for example, is a phobia that is specific to spiders; however, Agoraphobia is a general fear of being in open spaces or crowded places that stems from general anxiety. Many general fears are mistaken for specific fears because they are given a phobia name.
We can help with specific fears (phobias) and general fears (anxiety) at Mulberry Hypnotherapy, and we can help you figure out which is which during your free Initial Consultation.
The origin of a phobia can often be associated with a traumatic or unpleasant event earlier on in life, although can also be triggered during a time of high anxiety. The subconscious, noting high anxiety, steps in with a panic behaviour which we can then begin to associate with an object, place or event. Fears and phobias can be extremely debilitating and restricting in many areas of life. Using hypnotherapy, phobias can be resolved within three to five sessions.
The process allows the person to dissociate from the fear/phobia by employing specific techniques that remove the emotion from the situation.
More realistic thought patterns are then developed, assisting the individual’s subconscious in becoming indifferent to the specific object of fear, allowing them to be less affected by it in the future.
We see many different types of phobias and fears in the therapy room; many may appear irrational to others, but they are very real to the person suffering and come with an uncontrollable reaction. Hypnotherapy can help when these fears or phobias begin to negatively impact one’s life.
The following are some of the most common fears and phobias we encounter:
Needles * Flying * Spiders * Vomiting * Noises, particularly of eating or swallowing * Cats * Dogs * Germs * Contamination
But there are hundreds of different types, and even if we haven’t seen it before, we use a technique that can help with anything, so why not come in for a free initial consultation and see how we can help.
